Tips and tricks for Pre-Design Studio II

Using True Type Fonts and "Dingbat" with Pre-Design Studio II

With Pre-Design Studio you can turn True Type Fonts into editable line art in just seconds, by choosing menu Edit > Insert Text. Choose a font, type the text and click on OK

It will be even more fun to use a so-called dingbat font (a dingbat is a font with little graphics instead of characters). That way you have an editable drawing in no time.

A great place to start searching for dingbats is http://www.fontgarden.com or http://www.fontcubes.com  On this last page you will find instructions how to install TTFs too.

To manage your True Type Fonts and to know which keyboard stroke brings up which graphic, you can download and install the following freeware program: The Font Thing

Download these free Quilt Block fonts

Click on the above image to download the two QuiltBlock True Type fonts (dingbats) I used in some of my tutorials. These fonts are for your own personal use and may not be shared, sold or put up for download on any other website. The fonts are copyrighted by Quiltime.com, who graciously granted me permission to share these fonts with you. Please visit their website www.quiltime.com to see other neat accessories and patterns for quilting.
With Pre-Design Studio you can draw redwork, quilt patterns and fringe edge applique to open directly in your embroidery machine (DST format). If your machine cannot read DST files, then click the image on the left to visit Pulse Micro website and download the free Pulse Ambassador converter, to convert DST file made with Pre-Design Studio into the embroidery format suitable for your machine.

In the User Guide on page 36, you will find a tutorial to draw a flower, use the Magic Circle, copy the result and then prepare one of the flowers to use as artwork for embroidery digitizing and the other flower as a continuous line quilt pattern.

Unfortunately the background image "01_easydrawing.png" for the tutorial is not where it's supposed to be, in the folder Pattern Sample :(

Therefore please download it here: right-click and choose Save Link / Target as... The file is called   01_easydrawing.png.

The resulting files of the tutorial can be found as drawings in the folder Pattern Samples. They are named: 01 EMB flower 01.PRE, 02 EMB flower 02.PRE and 03 QLT flower 03.PRE and include explaining notes.
